Walking

For anyone looking for peace, quiet and with an interest in nature. The now renowned Tarras Valley Nature Reserve (TVNR) encircles the eastern side of Langholm. Though this area is largely undiscovered at present this is likely to change as the TVNR gathers pace as an attraction. There are multiple walk/run routes available for download: Langholm walks you will find that going for a quiet walk or run will often mean not seeing another person for the duration of your outing.

Cycling

A fabulous base for road cycling with thousands of miles of relatively quiet tarmac (and potholes unfortunately) and many rides available for download (RideWithGPS).

Swimming

Wild swimming is available and multiple local pools on the river Esk are within walking/cycling distance. Scotland is proud of it's no trespass legislation and you can legitimately go almost anywhere on foot provided you are respectful of the land, animals and other travelers.

Travel

Although a very rural location, access is excellent with Lockerbie and the M74 only 17 miles away (25 minutes drive, 1 hour cycling).
Langholm is the closest town (5.5 miles) with most amenities including a large Co-op available as well as having an array of places to visit, including:

The Monument Hill: A hike up to the Monument Hill rewards you with panoramic views of Langholm and the surrounding countryside.

Langholm Parish Church: This beautiful church, with its stunning architecture and serene atmosphere, is a peaceful place to visit.

Walk the Eskdalemuir Forest Trails: The Area is surrounded by lush forests, offering numerous trails for walking and hiking.

Explore the Cauldron Linn Waterfall: A beautiful waterfall located in the Eskdalemuir area, Cauldron Linn is a picturesque spot for nature lovers.
